Mesolayer theory for turbulent flows. (English) Zbl 0545.76060
The aim of this note is to modify R. R. Long and T. C. Chen’s [J. Fluid Mech. 105, 19-59 (1981)] mesolayer theory in the light of the author’s proposition [Ing.-Arch. 52, 355-377 (1982; Zbl 0509.76060) and J. Mec. Theor. Appl. 1, 963-973 (1982; Zbl 0505.76050)] that the velocity in the intermediate layer is of the order of $$U_ c$$, where $${\mathcal O}(U_ c)>{\mathcal O}(u_ T)$$. On the basis of the above stated proposition, a composite expansion for the inner and intermediate layer is formulated. The composite expansion is matched with the outer defect layer to show that the classical logarithmic region always exists, provided $$U_ c$$ is judiciously selected.
