Sungurtsev, Yu. V. On the effect of straightening critical and subcritical gas jets. (English) Zbl 0601.76086 Rev. Roum. Math. Pures Appl. 31, 643-650 (1986). The effect of straightening the plane gas jets for Mach numbers \(M\leq 1\) is studied. By means of the asymptotic series of the logarithmic derivative of the Chaplygin function \(x_ v\) corresponding formulae are obtained. These formulae determine the distance at which the jet becomes straight for critical and subcritical velocity on the jet. It is shown that the subsonic jet near critical velocity as well as at critical velocity becomes straight at finite distance from the orifice. The study is done on the model of a gas flowing out an unbounded symmetric container with convergent walls.
