Arrangements of 22 circles on a sphere. (English) Zbl 0674.52009

The paper refers to the problem of determining the largest angular diameter of 22 congruent circles which can be packed on a sphere without overlapping.
Correcting and improving known results to that question, the authors give interesting new arrangements represented by simplified stereographic projections.
Finally it is mentioned that (while the paper was in press) Lazić et al. derived an arrangement of 22 circles on a sphere with angular diameter \(d_{22}=44\circ 44'24.6''\), which now is seemingly the best known result.
