Fuzzy logic in financial analysis. (English) Zbl 1112.91001

Studies in Fuzziness and Soft Computing 175. Berlin: Springer (ISBN 3-540-23213-3/hbk). xiii, 450 p. (2005).
The book under review offers a wide survey of modern ideas and methods regarding the mathematical and logical treatment of recent business and economy. Namely, it is focused on the mathematical tools reflecting the uncertainty of non-stochastic type, following from complex and multiple relations among economic phenomena, and from rapid changes of the structures, rules and interests existing in the global economy. The fuzzy logical concepts are presented as adequate to the modelled situation.
The monograph is divided into twenty three relatively brief chapters devoted to the fuzzy logical processing of uncertainty in particular standard situations. It is possible to group the chapters into several clusters dealing with the introduction of the general elementary concepts, analysis of financing and risk (with a side-topic of the uncertainty of capital cost), strategic behaviour in the financial policy and analysis of the financial products submission.
The book is written on a mathematically simple level using elementary computational tools acceptable for a wide scale of readers.
