Belton, Valerie; Pictet, Jacques Talking about the practice of MCDA. (English) Zbl 1059.90079 Bouyssou, Denis (ed.) et al., Aiding decisions with multiple criteria. Essays in honor of Bernard Roy. Boston, MA: Kluwer Academic Publishers (ISBN 0-7923-7611-0/hbk). International Series in Operations Research & Management Science 44, 71-88 (2002). Summary: Most of the literature on MCDA is concerned with the development of aggregation methods and underlying theory. A few key papers address issues of philosophy and process. Even application-oriented papers are relatively rare, and these generally concentrate on the particular issue addressed and the use of MCDA to inform decision-making. In this paper, we seek to focus attention on more general issues relevant to the practice of MCDA. We draw on the broader OR/MS and Management literature. The form of the paper – a dialogue - -has been chosen to reflect the context in which a MCDA practitioner might frequently have to confront these issues, narnely a conversation with a potential client. For the entire collection see [Zbl 1048.90002].
