A scheduling model integrating loading and unloading operations at container terminals. (Chinese. English summary) Zbl 1224.90082

Summary: A scheduling model integrating loading and unloading operations is developed to improve the efficiency of container terminals. Meanwhile, a two-phase tabu search (TS) algorithm is designed to solve the model. In the first phase of the algorithm, a TS is performed to determine a good storage location scheme for import containers. For each storage location scheme obtained during the first phase, the other TS is run to obtain the trailer scheduling, the operation order of quay cranes, and the whole operation time, and then the outcome is fed back to the first phase. Numerical tests show that it is possible to search the solution space efficiently with the two-phase TS algorithm. In contrast to scheduling models of loading and unloading separately, the integrated model can increase the utilization efficiency of trailers.
