On the mathematical work of Mikhaĭl Zakharovich Solomyak. (English. Russian original) Zbl 1436.47001

This is an epitaph and tribute to {М. Z. Solomyak} (1931–2016) who contributed greatly to functional analysis and spectral theory. Alongside a short biography, the article surveys {M. Z. Solomyak}’s studies on differential equations in Banach spaces and the theory of elliptic systems as well as on his joint research with {M. Sh. Birman} concerning mainly estimates and asymptotics of the eigenvalues and singular values of integral operators, asymptotics of the spectra of differential operators, nonstandard spectral problems, etc. The complete list of {М. Z. Solomyak}’s publications is attached.
