Tan, Benkui Nonlinear Rossby waves and their interactions. II: Periodic wave solution and its stability. (Chinese. English summary) Zbl 0799.76013 Acta Sci. Nat. Univ. Pekin. 29, No. 3, 378-384 (1993). Summary: Two interacting nonlinear Rossby waves in the barotropic fluids can be described by a set of coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations. Earlier these equations were solved analytically and numerically to discuss the behavior of the envelope solitary waves and their collision interactions. In the present paper, the period wave solutions and their stability are investigated, and the criteria for stability and instability are obtained.
