Semi-analytic approach to stagnation-point flow between porous plates with mass transfer. (English) Zbl 0827.76088

The axially-symmetric laminar flow of an incompressible viscous fluid with uniform injection through two parallel porous plates is analyzed using computer extended series. The equations of motion are first reduced to a nonlinear ordinary differential equation for the non-dimensional axial velocity using a similarity transformation. The solution of this equation is sought in power series in small Reynolds number. Few terms of this series are determined analytically and then are invoked to obtain a large number of terms using computer. Thus, sufficiently large number of terms are calculated by delegating the routine complex algebra to computer. The region of validity of these series is increased by using the Padé transformation. Calculations of axial velocity and pressure gradient agree favourably with earlier numerical results. The authors also found that the axial velocity is independent of radial position. Then, the non-dimensional mass flux across the centre plane is determined and analyzed by series expansion method. The convergence of the series is improved by using the Euler transformation.
