Differential equations in the works of A. J. Lexell. (Russian) Zbl 0733.01013

The author tries to analyze the scientific work of A. J. Lexell in the area of differential equations and draws the following conclusions. Lexell dealt with ordinary differential equations and differential expressions and considered only exact solutions. Sometimes he worked in parallel with Euler and solved similar problems with different methods. He suggested the original method for reduction of differential equations. Euler’s criterion of integration of differential formulas was generalized by Lexell for functions of several variables. Simultaneously with Euler he used the integral factor method for integration of higher-order differential forms.
