A coupled electromagnetic and mechanical analysis of electromagnetic acoustic transducers. (English) Zbl 1180.78038

Summary: A comprehensive finite element analysis of Electromagnetic Acoustic Transducer (EMAT) is presented. The analysis has been performed using complete and incomplete expressions for excitation current and results have been compared with published data to assess the accuracy of the complete expression approach. Furthermore, the effects of varying the EMAT parameters, such as lift-off and coil dimensions, also the excitation frequency and static magnetic flux density, were investigated to show the effects they have on the performance of EMAT. Additionally, a finite element analysis was conducted on the coupled physics between electromagnetic and mechanical displacement of EMAT.
