Jöllenbeck, Armin Noncommutative character theory of the symmetric groups. (Nichtkommutative Charaktertheorie der symmetrischen Gruppen.) (German) Zbl 0931.20013 Bayreuther Mathematische Schriften 56, 1-41 (1999). Summary: A new approach to the classical theory of characters of symmetric groups is given. The crucial point is to consider a noncommutative bialgebra based on the concept of Young tableaux. Formerly difficult results like the theorems of Murnaghan-Nakayama and Littlewood-Richardson are reduced to simple calculations.
