Numerical analysis of compound jet disintegration. (English) Zbl 0847.76040
Summary: Capillary instability and breakup of two layers axisymmetric jets (compound jets) are studied. The process of jet disintegration is simulated numerically, solving the unsteady Navier-Stokes equations by the finite element method. The influence of the flow parameters on drop formation and breakup pattern is analyzed. The conclusions made are in very good agreement with the predictions of the linear stability analysis and the experimental data available.
