Casadio, Giuseppina; Zappa, Guido The contributions of Alfredo Capelli to the theory of groups. (Italian) Zbl 0770.01004 Boll. Stor. Sci. Mat. 11, No. 2, 25-54 (1991). The paper gives an account of the contributions of Alfredo Capelli to the theory of permutation groups and its significance for the theory of groups in general which were principally motivated by Camille Jordan’s “traitĂ© des substitutions” published in 1870. The results obtained by Capelli show how permutation groups clarify many of the concepts of the theory of substitution as well as of general group theory.
