Zhao, Lima; Huchzermeier, Arnd Supply chain finance. Integrating operations and finance in global supply chains. (English) Zbl 1393.90003 EURO Advanced Tutorials on Operational Research. Cham: Springer (ISBN 978-3-319-76662-1/hbk; 978-3-319-76663-8/ebook). xiii, 183 p. (2018). The book provides a comprehensive description of the interactions between finance and operations in the management of firms by also providing tools for best making decisions in the field. It is organized in eight chapters, each of them having a complete references list. Chapter 1 presents the concept of operations-finance interface for multidimensional integration and a framework of integrated risk management. In Chapter 2 the authors emphasize the link between capital structure and financial risk management by investigating how capital structure theories are applied for centralization and decentralization in operations and finance. Chapter 3 describes concepts and techniques of operational hedging in supply chain risk management, used for matching the supply with demand of material flows. Chapter 4 presents the conceptual framework of empirical investigation of integrated risk management, by comparing its frameworks with those of enterprise risk management, whereas Chapter 5 provides an analytical model of integrated risk management with capacity reshoring. Moreover, an analytical and numerical analysis between operations and finance is also presented. In Chapter 6 the authors describe a theoretical framework for supply chain finance and also show how emerging conceptual, analytical and empirical research has established the value and a foundation for development of supply chain finance. Chapter 7 presents a stylized model for managing supplier financial distress risk by two pre-shipment finance instruments: advance payment discount and buyer-backed purchase order finance. In the last Chapter 8 the authors present a qualitative and quantitative approach to reviewing conceptual research, as well as analytical models and empirical assessments of the interactions between operations and finance. The book can be very useful for students, practitioners and academics, as well as researchers and global managers, who can find in it valuable insights and directions for further investigation.
