Appl. 30, No. 3, 607-612 (2017). Summary: In barotropic fluids, based on the quasi-geostrophic barotropic vorticity equation which includes both the vertical and horizontal components of Coriolis parameter, the nonlinear mKdV equation is derived by the perturbation method near the equatorial Rossby waves. Then the solitary waves solution for the equation is obtained with the help of Jacobi elliptic functions. The results show that the horizontal component of the Earth’s rotation plays an important role in the structures of the Rossby waves.
