Application of generalized differential quadrature to vibration analysis. (English) Zbl 1237.74205
Summary: This paper presents a first endeavour to exploit the generalized differential quadrature method as an accurate, efficient and convenient numerical technique for vibration analysis. The generalized differential quadrature (GDQ) overcomes some major drawbacks existing in the method of differential quadrature (DQ). In GDQ, the weighting coefficients for derivative approximations are given by a simple algebraic expression and a recurrence relationship, together with arbitrary choice of grid points. GDQ is then applied to solve some free vibration problems. The accuracy, efficiency and convenience of GDQ are demonstrated throughout the numerical examples.
