Summary: We consider a temperature rate-dependent thermoplastic equation developed by Green and Lindsay to solve one-dimensional problem of a homogeneous and isotropic solid occupying the half space and subjected to time-dependent initial conditions. Explicit expressions for displacement and temperature field are obtained by using the Laplace transform with respect to time. An approximate small-time solution is also obtained. Numerical results for a special case of the short-time solution have been displayed graphically.
