An explicit secular equation for surface waves in an elastic material of general anisotropy. (English) Zbl 1062.74023
Surface waves (SW) are a wave phenomenon of high interest both theoretically and practically. SW were first introduced by Rayleigh for isotropic materials and by Stoneley for orthotropic ones. Subsequently, contributions were given by M. Destrade [J. Mech. Phys. Solids 50, No. 7, 1453–1468 (2002; Zbl 1038.74008)], but a general form for the secular equation was not obtained. Here the author develops a new approach previously introduced by him for monoclinic materials. A set of equations containing the secular equations is derived. Discussions about the derived results are presented. All is presented in a compact and elegant formalism.
