This book presents a unified and detailed course of the finite element method (FEM) for engineers and university students, for solutions of linear problems in mechanical and civil engineering, structural mechanics and heat transfer. The aim of the book is to provide necessary concepts, theories and techniques of FEM for readers in order to solve practical problems. Modern treatment of engineering problems in designing and analyzing structural and thermal systems, including microstructural systems, is also discussed. Equipped with the concepts, theories, and modelling techniques described in this book, readers should be able to use a commercial FEM software package to solve effectively engineering structural problem in a professional manner.
