Mioduszewski, Jerzy Urysohn’s lemma or Lusin-Menchoff theorem? (Polish. English summary) Zbl 1027.01011 Zesz. Nauk. Politech. Śląsk. 1287, Mat.-Fiz. 76, 141-150 (1996). Summary: The Urysohn Lemma was published and discovered, a year later than the so-called Lusin-Menchoff theorem. The last one was proved in fact by Vera Bogomolova in 1924 (see JFM 50.0181.03), the author of a single paper. Proofs of the mentioned theorems – as is commonly known – proceed in parallel. There is no doubt of the priority of Bogomolova, but it was Urysohn who understood the topological meaning of the result.
