Nobel Prize winner in economics academician Leonid Vital’evich Kantorovich (1912–1986) contributed to functional analysis, computational mathematics, theory of extremal problems, descriptive theory of functions, set theory, and other fields of mathematics. He is rightfully considered as one of pioneers in mathematical study of economical problems and one of creators of the linear programming. The article under review contains an essay on scientific and pedagogical activities of L. V. Kantorovich and is published on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of his birth. Reviewer: V. A.
