Simulation of boundary layer transition induced by periodically passing wakes. (English) Zbl 1002.76051
The authors consider the evolution of an incompressible flow over a smooth flat plate with upstream wakes passing periodically. Mass and momentum conservation is enforced for this flow by solving the full time-dependent mass-conservation and Navier-Stokes equations. The computer simulation of the flow is performed using a parallelized DNS method. The authors present results for velocity field, and visualize the transition to turbulence. The DNS was performed also for two hypothetical flows, for which the results on velocity field are also presented.
