Kuper, Gabriel (ed.) et al., Constraint databases. Berlin: Springer. 319-334 (2000).
Summary: The chapter is organized as follows. We first present a brief comparison of spatial modeling and query processing techniques for both traditional spatial databases and for constraint databases. We show how available techniques that have been developed for spatial databases can be used in the context of constraint databases. We then focus on those aspects of optimization which are specific to constraints, and consider the potential for optimization in two specific areas of interest: (1) the format of the input data, and its organization, and (2) the type of queries, and their transformation.
