Some examples of hyperbolic groups. (English) Zbl 0955.20027
Cossey, John (ed.) et al., Geometric group theory down under. Proceedings of a special year in geometric group theory, Canberra, Australia, July 14-19, 1996. Berlin: de Gruyter. 195-202 (1999).
The paper presents some geometric and algebraic examples of word hyperbolic groups (in the sense of Gromov) to compare the range of applicability of different theories of JSJ-decompositions of groups based on Waldhausen’s original concept of canonical decompositions [see W. D. Neumann, G. A. Swarup, Geom. Topol. 1, 21-40 (1997; Zbl 0886.57009)]. The authors produce examples of one-ended hyperbolic groups with finite outer automorphism groups which have JSJ-decompositions in the sense of B. H. Bowditch [Acta Math. 180, No. 2, 145-186 (1998; Zbl 0911.57001)].
