Some aspects of time series analysis in \(X\)-ray astronomy. (English) Zbl 0925.85004
Proceedings of the 51st session of the International Statistical Institute, Istanbul, Turkey, August 18–26, 1997. Vol. 2. Voorburg: International Statistical Institute, 367-370 (1997).
The purpose of this talk is to explain to statisticians how astrophysicists, mostly using Fourier transform techniques, go about analyzing X-ray times-series data obtained from accreting compact objects (neutron stars and black holes), and to point out a few problems with the usual approaches.
