Characterization of information measures. (English) Zbl 0923.94002
Singapore: World Scientific. x, 281 p. (1997).
This book deals with the characterizations of various measures of information in general and sum form information measures in particular. It is an up-to-date collection of research works of many people, including that of the authors.
The book contains nine chapters. Chapter 1 deals with some basic results on functional equations. Branching property of information measures and their corresponding functional equations are included in Chapter 2. Chapter 3 deals with recursivity properties of information measures. Chapter 4 includes the fundamental equation of information and regular recursive measures. The last five chapters deal with the characterizations of sum form information measures that arise from various types of additivities.
I am confident that the book will be useful to researchers as well as graduate students interested in functional equations with applications to information theory.
