Optimal and efficient treatment-control designs. (English) Zbl 0911.62072
Ghosh, S. (ed.) et al., Design and analysis of experiments. Amsterdam: North-Holland. Handb. Stat. 13, 1007-1053 (1996).
This article is an update and extension of an earlier survey on this topic by the author, A.S. Hedayat and M. Jacroux [Stat. Sci. 3, 462-491 (1988)]. It starts with historical notes on early developments which are followed by an extensive treatment of efficient block designs with respect to A- and MV- optimality for point estimation and confidence intervals. This covers, in particular, orthogonal designs, optimal incomplete block designs, group divisible designs and row-column designs. Alternatively, block designs are investigated with respect to Bayes optimality criteria. Finally, efficiency bounds are presented and more complicated settings are considered like repeated measurement designs, trend resistant designs and unequal block sizes.
