One-point modelling of rapidly deformed homogeneous turbulence. (English) Zbl 0872.76044
The authors develop a Reynolds stress transport model for the case of rapid rotation. The structure dimensionality and the structure circulicity tensors are introduced, and the tensors analogous to the stress anisotropy tensor are defined. For making the model more precise, one more tensor is introduced, called “stropholysis”. It is shown that the linear model fails, and a nonlinear model must be found. Because the model is too complicated for engineering analysis, a simple, structure-based approach is formulated. Only one second-rank tensor is introduced, and the equations are formulated explicitly. The authors claim that the simplified model is accurate enough for engineering analysis of the flows with mean rotation.
