The theory of deformable porous media and its application to composite material manufacturing. (English) Zbl 0858.73055
Summary: In many processes used to fabricate composite materials, e.g., compression and injection molding, the flow of the liquid constituent generates deformations in the reinforcing network which, in turn, influence the flow. Here the theory of deformable porous media is applied to handle the coupled flow-deformation problem. The thermodynamical models obtained using the theory of mixtures and the ensemble average approach are compared and then applied. A review of the literature dealing with the modelling of composite material manufacturing processes is also given.
