Brief biography of Niklaus I Bernoulli, and German translations, along with comments, of two letters from his correspondence with Euler of 1742/43, concerning partial differentials, \(f_{xy}= f_{yx}\), and orthogonal trajectories. Euler acknowledges Bernoulli’s priority, and the latter supplies new proofs.
