Partial differentiation in Euler’s correspondence with Niklaus I Bernoulli – a note. (Partielle Differentiation im Briefwechsel Eulers mit Niklaus I Bernoulli – eine Miszelle.) (German) Zbl 0855.01020

Dauben, Joseph W. (ed.) et al., History of mathematics: states of the art. Flores quadrivii – Studies in honor of Christoph J. Scriba. San Diego, CA: Academic Press. 223-236 (1996).
Brief biography of Niklaus I Bernoulli, and German translations, along with comments, of two letters from his correspondence with Euler of 1742/43, concerning partial differentials, \(f_{xy}= f_{yx}\), and orthogonal trajectories. Euler acknowledges Bernoulli’s priority, and the latter supplies new proofs.
