Direct numerical simulation of a Mach 2 shock interacting with isotropic turbulence. (English) Zbl 0853.76047
The interaction of a supersonic isotropic turbulent oncoming flow with a normal shock is investigated by using direct numerical simulation technique. Several higher-order discretization schemes are tested to ensure proper shock capturing, and comparison with some experimental data is reported. In the comparison the reduction of the length scale and the amplification of the thermodynamic quantities are discussed. It is concluded that the numerical results show in part a behavior that differs from the experimental data. The paper encourages further research on the subject.
