The present knowledge of the relation of two-dimensional homotopy to decision problems in combinatorial group theory is the subject of this important work that has both the elements of a textbook and a research monograph. This twelfth chapter is a survey of results related to the generalized Andrews-Curtis conjecture that a simple-homotopy equivalence between finite 2-dimensional CW-complexes can always be turned into a 3- deformation.
