Stress singularities along a cycloid rough surface. (English) Zbl 0797.73004
The authors consider the problem of a cycloid wavy surface under a uniform bulk stress. Using the conformal mapping method to find the stress and displacement fields, they show that a cusped cycloid induces crack-like singular stresses near the surface, and that the strain energy assumes a Dirac distribution concentrated at the cusp. The analytic solutions derived may be of help in numerical computations associated with the evolution process.
