Kirkland, Steve An eigenvalue region for Leslie matrices. (English) Zbl 0749.15004 SIAM J. Matrix Anal. Appl. 13, No. 2, 507-529 (1992). A brief description of the Leslie model is given and a sharp containment region for the non positive spectrum of a Leslie matrix is constructed, characterizing the region in terms of some simple equations [cf. P. H. Leslie, Biometrika 33, 183–212 (1945; Zbl 0060.31803)].While it is well known that such matrices have exactly one positive eigenvalue, which dominates the others in modulus, little has been said about the nonpositive eigenvalues of a Leslie matrix and hence this paper is of importance to deal with the nonpositive spectrum.
