On the nature of naked singularities in Vaidya spacetimes. (English) Zbl 0695.53065
The authors investigate the Papapetrou naked singularity forming in a Vaidya space time containing imploding null dust. Extending previous investigations due to G. P. Hollier [ibid. 3, L 111-L 114 (1986; Zbl 0604.53044)], the growth of curvature along both null and timelike geodesics joining the naked singularity is examined. The investigations show that this singularity is a curvature singularity in a stronger sense than that defined by Tipler. Hence a counterexample to certain forms of cosmic censorship hypotheses is obtained.
