Micro-structural and peripheral layer viscosity effects on the flow of blood through artery with mild stenosis. (English) Zbl 0666.76160

Blood flow through an artery with mild symmetrical stenosis has been analysed by characterising it with a micro-polar fluid so as to include the micro-structural effects in addition to the peripheral-layer viscosity effects. It has been observed that the percentage stenosis is of greater importance than the length in identification and location of the disease. Curves showing the variation of the flow rate vs. percentage stenosis show a little variation till a critical value of the percentage stenosis and after this value flow rate varies dramatically even for a small change in percentage stenosis. It has also been observed that frictional drag increases as the peripheral-layer viscosity and rotational viscosity increases but decreases significantly as the peripheral-layer thickness increases.
