Analytical results on the stability of age-structured recurrent epidemic models. (English) Zbl 0661.92023
This paper examines the equilibrium and stability properties for the transmission of diseases using an age structure in the population. The constant death rate case and the step death function case are considered. Also a class of incubating individuals and a class of newborns protected by maternal antibodies are introduced. These stability results are useful in predicting the long-term overall level of incidence of disease, describing the oscillations around the equilibrium, and designing immunization programs.
