Alexander, M. E. Tidal resonances in binary star systems. (English) Zbl 0638.70006 Mon. Not. R. Astron. Soc. 227, 843-861 (1987). In this paper to examine the dynamics of the coupled orbit stellar oscillation system, when the assumption of a fixed orbit is removed. The Hamiltonian describing the coupled system of orbital motion and oscillations of a non-rotating star is derived. The equations of motion are numerically integrated to demonstrate the evolution through tidal capture and partial circularization of the elliptical orbit. The extension of the analysis to a rotating star is discussed.
