Indices and nullities of Yang-Mills fields. (English) Zbl 0629.53042

Sei P ein G-Hauptfaserbündel mit einer kompakten Riemannschen Mannigfaltigkeit M als Basis und E ein hierzu assoziiertes Bündel, auf dem G durch die adjungierte Darstellung ad wirkt. Mit \(\Omega^ p\) werden die Lie-Algebra wertigen p-Formen auf M bezeichnet. Ist \(\nabla\) ein G-Zusammenhang auf E und \(\delta^{\nabla}: \Omega^ p\to \Omega^{p-1}\) die kovariante Koableitung, so definiert man \[ S^{\nabla}(B)=\nabla^*\nabla B+B\cdot Ric+2K^{\nabla}(B);\quad B\in \Omega^ 1, \] wo \[ \nabla^*\nabla_{\phi}=\sum_{j}(\nabla_{e_ j}\nabla_{e_ j}\phi -\nabla_{D_{e_ j}e_ j}\phi);\quad \phi \in \Omega^ p \] der Laplace-Operator, D der Levi-Civity-Zusammenhang auf M und \(\{e_ 1,...,e_ n\}\) eine Orthonormalbasis von \(T_ xM\) ist. Ferner gilt mit dem Riemann-Tensor \(R^{\nabla}\) von \(\nabla:\) \[ K^{\nabla}(B)(X)=\sum_{j}[R(e_ j,X),B(e_ j)]. \] Die Einschränkung von \(S^{\nabla}\) auf \(Ker(\delta^{\nabla})\) habe die Eigenräume \(E_{\lambda_ 1},E_{\lambda_ 2},... \). Der Index von \(\nabla\) wird als \(i(\nabla)=\dim \oplus_{\lambda <0}E_{\lambda}\) und die Nullität als \(n(\nabla)=\dim E_ 0\) definiert.
Das wesentliche Resultat der Arbeit sind einige Abschätzungen für i(\(\nabla)\) und n(\(\nabla)\). Offenbar gelten sie nur für kompakte Riemannsche Mannigfaltigkeiten M; pseudo-Riemannsche Metriken werden nicht betrachtet.
