A method for constructing balanced incomplete-block designs with nested rows and columns. (English) Zbl 0626.62075
The paper presents a simple and general method for constructing balanced incomplete block designs with nested rows and columns. It has been proved that if there exists a BCBRC or BIBRC$$\{$$ v,b,r,p,q,$$\lambda\}$$ design d and a BIB design $$d_ 1$$, with p treatment, and b’ blocks of size $$k'<p$$ and other parameters r’ and $$\lambda$$ ’, there exists a BIBRC$$\{$$ v,bb’,rr’,k’,q’,$$\lambda\lambda$$ ’$$\}$$. Efficiency factors, for bottom stratum, of some BIB designs with nested rows and columns are worked out and tabulated.
Also it has been proved that a BIB design with nested rows and columns is generally balanced if it satisfies a certain condition.
