A method for constructing balanced incomplete-block designs with nested rows and columns. (English) Zbl 0626.62075
The paper presents a simple and general method for constructing balanced incomplete block designs with nested rows and columns. It has been proved that if there exists a BCBRC or BIBRC\(\{\) v,b,r,p,q,\(\lambda\}\) design d and a BIB design \(d_ 1\), with p treatment, and b’ blocks of size \(k'<p\) and other parameters r’ and \(\lambda\) ’, there exists a BIBRC\(\{\) v,bb’,rr’,k’,q’,\(\lambda\lambda\) ’\(\}\). Efficiency factors, for bottom stratum, of some BIB designs with nested rows and columns are worked out and tabulated.
Also it has been proved that a BIB design with nested rows and columns is generally balanced if it satisfies a certain condition.
