In this report the significance and proofs of the recent results of Y. Yomdin [Isr. J. Math. 57, 285–300 (1987; Zbl 0641.54036), Isr. J. Math. 57, 301–317 (1987; Zbl 0641.54037)] on entropy of differentiable self-maps of a manifold and its relation to growth in volume and in homology are explained.
