Sei I eine meßbare Teilmenge von [0,1], auf welcher eine an den Enden eingespannte elastische Saite unter Einwirkung der Schwerkraft unter Zug, und auf der Komplementärmenge \(I^ c\) unter Druck steht. Es handelt sich dabei nicht um klassische, sondern um distributionelle Lösungen. Die Menge aller Teilmengen I bildet mit der Hausdorff Topologie einen nichteuklidischen Parameterraum, über dem die Lösungen ein unendlich- dimensionales Kontinuum bilden. Es werden neue Sätze über Abbildungen bewiesen, mit denen die topologische Struktur dieses Kontinuums untersucht wird.
