Coupled elasto-plasticity and damage constitutive equations. (English) Zbl 0546.73085

Summary: The basic equations to model the coupling between strain and damage behaviors are written within the framework of the thermodynamics of irreversible processes. The damage is represented by a scalar internal variable which expresses the loss of strength of materials during such processes as fatigue, ductile or creep strains. Applications are given in elasticity coupled with damage for brittle failure of concrete or high- cycle fatigue of metals, in plasticity coupled with damage for ductile fracture or low-cycle fatigue, and in visco-plasticity coupled with creep and fatigue damages.
