Spins in a deforming continuum. (English) Zbl 0546.73002
During a generic movement of a continuum a notion of local spin is usually derived either from the instantaneous velocity field or from the time-rate of change of the rotor associated with the displacement field. The time rate of change of the principal triads of the right and left stretch tensors can also be invoked. In general the four notions of spin differ from one another and the authors recall the formulae which put into evidence the differences.
