Kane, T. R.; Levinson, D. A. Multibody dynamics. (English) Zbl 0546.70015 J. Appl. Mech. 50, 1071-1078 (1983). Based on a large literature and with the help of some typical examples, the authors show that in many situations it is better to use the various virtual work principles for multibody problems. The Lagrange equations have several disadvantages when they are used for a multibody computer program (time consuming, difficult to accomplish without error a.s.o.).
