Mesolayer theory for turbulent flows. (English) Zbl 0545.76060
The aim of this note is to modify R. R. Long and T. C. Chen’s [J. Fluid Mech. 105, 19-59 (1981)] mesolayer theory in the light of the author’s proposition [Ing.-Arch. 52, 355-377 (1982; Zbl 0509.76060) and J. Mec. Theor. Appl. 1, 963-973 (1982; Zbl 0505.76050)] that the velocity in the intermediate layer is of the order of \(U_ c\), where \({\mathcal O}(U_ c)>{\mathcal O}(u_ T)\). On the basis of the above stated proposition, a composite expansion for the inner and intermediate layer is formulated. The composite expansion is matched with the outer defect layer to show that the classical logarithmic region always exists, provided \(U_ c\) is judiciously selected.
