Strained spiral vortex model for turbulent fine structure. (English) Zbl 0536.76034
In this paper, a solution to the Navier-Stokes equations is presented, which yields the energy spectrum for turbulent incompressible flow proposed by A. Kolmogorov [C.R. Acad. Sci. URSS, N. S. 30, 301-305 (1941; Zbl 0025.37602)]. A structure of turbulence is proposed, which consists of strained spiral vortex solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations. The calculation of the energy spectrum leads to a formula which depends on more parameters than Kolmogorov proposed, but when these are related in a suitable way, Kolmogorov’s spectrum results.
