Direction of branches bifurcating at a bifurcation point. Determination of starting points for a continuation algorithm. (English) Zbl 0536.65032

Dans cet article les AA. considèrent des systèmes de n équations algébriques non linéaires \(f_ i(x_ 1,x_ 2,...,x_ n,\alpha)=0\), \(i=1,2,...,n\), dépendant du paramètre \(\alpha\). Des points de bifurcation, qui sont des points d’intersection de deux ou plusieurs branches de solutions, peuvent se présenter. Les AA. examinent la façon dont les solutions dépendant du paramètre \(\alpha\) au voisinage d’un tel point. Ce procédé est approprié pour obtenir le diagramme complet des solutions.
L’approche proposée pour l’obtention de la direction des branches revient à décomposer le problème primitif; l’allure des bifurcations est examiné dans un espace de faible dimension. Par ailleurs les AA. doivent choisir des points de départ, afin de faire démarrer un algorithme de continuation. Il leur faut préciser des ”conditions initiales”: une estimation d’un point sur une branche de solution, un sens de parcours sur celle-ci et une variable auxiliaire.
Les développements sont illustrés par des exemples. Les AA. considèrent deux équations non linéaires à deux variables. La méthode de Newton-Gauss donne lieu à la convergence vers un point de bifurcation. En outre des systèmes de 2n équations d’état, \(n=2;3\), en régime permanent, sont traités; à cet effet le mécanisme de réaction du Brusselator est utilisé [G. Nicolis and I. D’autre part le cas où la matrice de Jacobi \(\tilde J\) est de rang n-2 est abordé; les points de bifurcation obtenus ont un plus haut degré de dégénérescence.
