Turbulent jets and plumes. (English) Zbl 0533.76055
Annual Review of Fluid Mechanics 14, 189-212 (1982).
[For the entire collection see Zbl 0476.00028.]
The paper reviews the progress in relation to the interaction of jets and plumes with density stratification and uniform motion of the ambient fluid. The areas which have received adequate attention have been marked out. The topics which deserve further attention of the researchers have also been indicated. The areas dealing with the jet flows in the region of flow within ten jet diameters of the discharge orifice and work describing the mechanics of turbulence in plumes are quite promising for the future research scientists.
